The Fat Quarter Top Tutorial

Please excuse my teething model :)

So just about everyone that sews ...or attempts to sew has a fat quarter lying around somewhere. I wanted to try to make something other than a tote and wearable. I came up with this one shoulder top. It's easy to slip on my wiggling 9 month old and is perfect for the upcoming summer. The best thing about this is Joanns sometimes runs a 99 cent sale on fat quarters which makes this top not only cute but cheap lol.

All you need is a fat quarter and one package of bias tape. And of course all other basic supplies. So lets get started.

Pattern download front and back

Step 1

Cut out your two pattern pieces. *******REMEMBER to extent them down. I think its a waste of printer ink and paper to draw a 2.5/3.5 rectangle.

Step 2 (optional)

If you plan on adding a ruffle or pleats (like i did) do so now. Pin and baste stitch in place.

Step 3

Make sure you sew the ruffle into the side seam

Pin down the sides and sew.

Step 4

Pin bias tape around the armhole and sew in place.

Step 5

Pin bias tape around the bottom and sew. You could also add a ruffle to the bottom which would be really cute and it would make extend the length.

Step 6

Fold the remaining bias tape in half. Start pinning from the seam opposite the armhole seam. By doing this the ties will be even. Sew the bias in place, making sure to go all the way to the ends.

And thats it...simple, cheap and cute. Makes my wallet happy :)
